2026 VAT changes worth knowing

  • Germany: restaurant food moves from the 19% standard rate to the 7% reduced rate from 2026.
  • Netherlands: short-stay accommodation moved from the 9% reduced rate to the 21% standard rate from 1 January 2026.
  • Ireland: the 9% reduced rate on restaurant/catering food and hairdressing was restored from 1 July 2026 (previously 13.5%).
